Work and save in tourism and hospitality

As we battle the rising cost of living, discover how a tourism or hospitality job can help you save!

Tourism and hospitality offer a wide range of career opportunities that can cater to any person, but did you know there are many jobs in our industry that could help you save money in your day-to-day life? Let’s check out some of the options below!

 

All-expenses paid

Cruise / luxury yachts - all basic living expenses are covered at sea for crew members: accommodation, water, electricity, and food. Plus, you get to travel the world!

 

Save on rent

Accommodation roles – some accommodation roles will come with the ability to live onsite

Hostel / backpackers – some hostels will provide lodging for their staff

Couple opportunities – some accommodation roles often offer opportunities for couples to manage a site together. This can most often be found for accommodation in remote locations, such as farm stays or on islands.

Seasonal roles – some seasonal employers will be able to provide their staff with accommodation. Check out ski fields and summer work in popular summer destinations.

 

Save on groceries

Hotel roles – some hotels will provide meals for all staff members

Food and beverage roles – some cafes, restaurants and bars will allow their staff to order or cook food for free during their shifts

Fishing Charter –  take people out for an incredible fishing experience and catch a couple extra for yourself!

 

Save on travel

Flight Attendant – this will require training, however, it is a guaranteed way to get yourself overseas during these tough times

Private jet attendant – more likely than not, it will be experienced flight attendants who will have the best chance of landing these sought after opportunities, but keep an eye out and see!

Trade and sales roles – trade and sales is a crucial part of the tourism industry, trying to attract as many international visitors or global conferences to our shores as possible. Often, these roles will involve representing Aotearoa at events, meetings and famils around the world.

Cruise and yacht roles – we’ve said it before, but we’ll say it again! Cruise and yacht life are once-in-a-lifetime opportunities not to be missed

Tour guiding – some international companies will provide the opportunity to guide overseas within the same company, or simply travel our amazing country with one of the many tour companies available here in Aotearoa

 

Save on your interests

Did you know most people’s interests can be found in some form of tourism or hospitality business? If you’re counting the pennies this year, but don’t want to give up on your passions – turn them into a job! Some examples include:

  • Hiking – become a hiking guide
  • Fishing – work on a fishing charter
  • Movies – work in a cinema
  • Skiing – work a ski season
  • Music or comedy gigs – find a role with the venue that hosts them
  • Skydiving – find a role with a skydiving company
  • And more!

 

Save on clothes

Don’t want to spend money on work clothes all the time? Find a role that includes a uniform!

 

Save on petrol

Company vehicles - some businesses require drivers for a range of reasons, such as shuttles, limousines, vans and more – you may find a unique opportunity that will allow you to drive the vehicle to and from your home.

Company cars – many companies have a fleet of company cars that are allocated to staff, find the right role and you may be able to take advantage of this great perk!
