Search the Marketplace – visit this link - for HR Advice options by adding COVID-19 in the service categories and Otago in Regions.

Contribution Compass

In this time of business disruption and operational instability, Contribution Compass recognise the tough decisions that many businesses are having to make. Thousands of workers face redundancy by businesses around the World.

The Contribution Compass has found a way for companies making redundancies to assist affected staff to find a new job. It is a way to create a small positive impact on the lives of people who are having their worlds turned up-side-down. The Contribution Compass will gift to these individuals a complimentary Contribution Compass profiler and accompanying webinar. This will enable the displaced employee to understand a little more about themselves and provide guidance on the type of roles that they could provide their maximum contribution in, for the future.

Take control of what can be controlled. To play a small part in helping those whose jobs have been affected by COVID-19 and be part of the positive opportunities within this time of trial email [email protected]

Ministry of Social Development

Are you needing to make some staff redundant and not sure where to turn to? The Ministry of Social Development is providing redundancy support across the region to affected employer/employees. The Ministry offers redundancy support for organisations and their staff.

Below are a few examples of support options:

  • We can provide MSD information and resources about eligibility and income support options to staff and/or management. All is confidential.
  • Provide employment assistance, share our existing job platforms, share information about our employment broker services, funnel staff into opportunities with other employers we work with in the region that are currently employing/deployment strategies. We’re currently working on delivering employment expos/employer days to match job-seekers with employment opportunities at various MSD sites across the region.
  • We also have partnerships with IRD and Immigration for on-site Q&As about income support options.

Please reach out if you need support now or want advice for the future by contacting

Another option to flag with your staff is the Income Relief Payment (IRP), which was established to support those who have lost their job from 1 March 2020 to 30 October 2020 because of COVID-19, and

    • have been working at least 15 hours a week for 12 weeks before they lost their job
    • don’t have a partner who earns more than $2,000 a week before tax
    • meet other eligibly criteria.

Staff who work less than 15 hours a week will need to apply for job seekers benefit as they do not qualify for IRP, with part-time 15-29 hour workers ($490 IRP), and full-time 30+ hour workers ($250 IRP) both entitled to IRP. The IRP is a 12-week payment of $250-$490. This should allow staff time to transition into new work etc. In addition to the IRP your staff may also be eligible for further support (accommodation supplement, winter payment, working for families).
