Throughout our "Education Hero" campaign, we are showcasing great students from tourism or hospitality courses all around New Zealand. In this case study, you will learn about Jaz from Crown Institute of Studies.
We chatted to Jaz about why he chose to study food and beverage at Crown Institute of Studies in Auckland:
Why did you choose to study food and beverage?
I chose this course specifically because both my parents were in hospitality but left it after their separation. I felt a duty to pursue a career that they left behind.
What is your career aspiration?
My dream career is to own and manage my own restaurant. Carrying on our old family business.
Why was Crown your school of choice?
I opted for Crown because several of my friends were already studying there, and they spoke highly of the benefits they experienced and how it aligned with their passions. Their positive feedback sparked my interest.
What you’re enjoying most about your studies?
We get to go on a few trips, and my favourite of those was going down to Queenstown. It was my first time going down to the South Island and we got to do so many activities. Plus, it was nice to get out of Auckland.
What you’re enjoying most about your student life?
One of the things I love about my student life here at Crown is the social aspect. I’ve had the opportunity to meet incredible people and make lifelong friends.
How do your friends and family feel about your study choices?
I feel that I'm making my family proud. I'm the only one of my three brothers to study and pursue a course and career like this.
What is your top tip for choosing a course and university?
My advice to high schoolers is to pursue a field of study they are deeply passionate about and genuinely enjoy. It's crucial to maintain consistency and dedication in their chosen path.
